Sunday 13th April - Woodland Squirrel

A Lovely Day in the Heart of Yorkshire

This Sunday gone; I welcomed three lovely ladies to Feather Felts for our Woodland Squirrel needle felting workshop here in the village of Hunmanby, with the North Yorkshire countryside just outside the window

After a quick introduction and a few guidelines, we all got stuck into our felting. It’s always a pleasure to see how, even with the same materials and guidance, each squirrel starts to take on its own character. Needle felting is a craft that rewards patience and a steady hand — and these ladies took to it brilliantly.

The room was full of quiet concentration, a few laughs, and the steady rhythm of felting needles working away. It's days like this that remind me how important it is to slow down now and again and simply enjoy the making.

Finished Squirrels

By the end of the workshop, each of the ladies had created a fantastic little woodland squirrel, each one full of its own charm. Some looked mischievous, some looked thoughtful — but all were completely delightful. I couldn’t have been more impressed with the results.

It’s always lovely to see people surprised by what they can achieve with a bit of wool, a felting needle, and a few hours of encouragement. A real testament to the idea that traditional crafts still have a strong place in today’s world.

A Yorkshire Thank You

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along. I hope you enjoyed your day as much as I did. There's something special about sharing time, stories, and creativity under one roof — the old-fashioned way — and it's something I’ll never tire of.

I look forward to welcoming more of you to Feather Felts soon. Until then, happy felting!
