A Lovely Morning of Wet Felting

We had such a lovely time at our half day wet felting workshop on Sunday 16th August. There was plenty of colour, creativity and good conversation around the table, and it was especially nice to welcome a visitor all the way from Australia! She was staying with family and came along with her mum, having wanted to try felting for quite some time. Happily, she absolutely loved it, so I think we may have made a new felting convert. She’ll now be taking her new skills and knowledge back to Oz with her!

Four Very Different Landscapes

One of the things I enjoy most about these workshops is seeing just how differently everyone interprets the same materials, and this group was no exception. Each lady chose her own colour palette and created something completely individual. One picture became a beautiful sunset over the sea, with prefelt used to form the rocks in the foreground and carded Corriedale wool adding movement to the waves. Another captured a blustery day in a flower meadow, with plans to add some finer details afterwards using dry needle felting.

Moorland, Sheep and Dancing Poppies

The third landscape took inspiration from heather-covered moorland, with sheep to be needle felted into the scene at a later stage. The final piece was wonderfully lively - an exuberant field of dancing poppies set against a wonderfully vibrant background. There is always something special about seeing four finished pieces side by side and realising that, although everyone has followed the same basic process, no two pictures ever turn out alike.

Rough Edges and Finished Pieces

Unusually, every lady decided she rather liked the natural rough edges of her felted picture, so I’m looking forward to seeing how they choose to mount them. These pieces are often framed behind glass, but the uneven edges have a lovely handmade quality of their own and really suit the character of the felt. I’ve included a few photographs from the workshop below so you can have a closer look at what everyone created. All in all, it was a fabulous day - roll on the next one!
