A Relaxed February Morning of Wet Felting
On Saturday 14th February, we gathered at the Feather Felts Workshop for a half day of traditional wet felting. The morning had a calm, steady feel from the start, with tables set, wool laid out, and warm soapy water ready. Wet felting has a wonderful rhythm to it, and it did not take long for everyone to settle into the process and enjoy the quiet focus that comes with working by hand.
Exploring the Traditional Technique
We began by carefully laying out soft layers of natural wool fibres, thinking about colour placement and how different shades would blend together once the process began. Step by step, gentle pressure and movement encouraged the fibres to bind, gradually transforming loose wool into a strong piece of felt. Taking time at this stage always makes the difference, and it was lovely to see confidence grow as the technique became familiar.
Watching Each Design Develop
As the session progressed, textures began to appear and colours softened into one another. Some chose abstract designs, while others worked with a clearer picture in mind, but every piece developed its own depth and character. Wet felting rewards patience, and it was a pleasure to see the steady transformation unfold across the table.
Finished Pieces and a Well Spent Morning
By the end of the workshop, everyone left with a completed felted artwork ready to take home and admire. With all materials, tools, and refreshments provided, the focus remained firmly on enjoying the process rather than rushing the result. It was a calm and creative half day, and I will be sharing photographs from the session below to capture both the atmosphere and the beautiful finished work.
