2D Needle Felting Workshop: A Picture-Perfect Yorkshire Afternoon
On Saturday, March 29th, five talented ladies joined me for a relaxing and creative 2D Needle Felting workshop. With the Yorkshire countryside as our inspiration, we spent a wonderful afternoon crafting beautiful wool paintings, learning new skills, and enjoying the company of fellow crafters. It was a workshop filled with colour, texture, and plenty of moments of quiet concentration, balanced with conversation and laughter.
As everyone settled in, the excitement was clear—some of the ladies had tried needle felting before, while others were exploring it for the first time. The beauty of 2D felting is that it allows for so much creative freedom, and there’s something incredibly satisfying about layering soft wool to form a picture, just as you would with paints on a canvas.
With cups of tea in hand (a must for any Yorkshire gathering), we got stuck in. The chatter soon gave way to focused felting, as each person brought their chosen design to life, whether it was a landscape, the sea[i], or something more abstract. The gentle crunch of the felting needles tapping into the fabric created a soothing atmosphere—it’s easy to lose track of time when you’re immersed in something so enjoyable.
There’s no shortage of inspiration in Yorkshire, and this certainly showed in the ladies’ work. Rolling hills and soft, sweeping skies emerged as they carefully blended colours and added fine details. The joy of needle felting is that no two pieces are ever the same—each picture was a unique reflection of its creator’s style and vision.
Throughout the morning, there were plenty of moments of admiration as we took peeks at each other’s progress. It’s always lovely to see different artistic approaches, from soft, scenes to bold, vibrant compositions. The diversity of ideas and techniques made the session even more inspiring.
Friendship, Felting, and Fun
Workshops like these aren’t just about learning a new skill; they’re about connection. It was wonderful to see the group encouraging and supporting each other, sharing tips, and exchanging ideas. Some had come with friends, while others had arrived alone but left with new creative companions. That’s the beauty of crafting—it brings people together in the most natural and effortless way.
Laughter, storytelling, and plenty of “oohs” and “aahs” filled the space as the pieces neared completion. The sense of achievement in the room was undeniable—each felted artwork was a testament to patience, creativity, and a little bit of Yorkshire magic.
As we wrapped up the session, we took a moment to admire everyone’s finished pictures. The transformation from blank backgrounds to richly detailed wool paintings was remarkable. Every piece told its own story, filled with personality and charm.
Workshops like these always remind me why I love teaching this craft. Seeing people discover their creative side, gain confidence, and leave with something they’re truly proud of is incredibly rewarding.
Until Next Time.
