A Creative Sunday in Hunmanby
On Sunday 14th September, I welcomed two wonderful ladies to Feather Felts for a full day felting workshop here in Hunmanby, North Yorkshire. Set in the heart of the Yorkshire coast, the peaceful surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for a day of creativity and relaxation. With the kettle always on and the wool at the ready, we settled in for a day of making and sharing.
Learning the Art of Felting
The workshop focused on creating 2D felted pictures, guiding everyone through the process of blending natural wool fibres, layering colours, and shaping details with the needle. Both participants took to the techniques beautifully, each developing their own style as the day progressed. It was a joy to see confidence grow as the pictures began to take shape, with every detail carefully added to bring their designs to life.
A Day Well Spent
Workshops like this are as much about the atmosphere as they are about the finished piece. With good company, plenty of tea, and the calming rhythm of felting, the hours passed by quickly. By the end of the day, both ladies had created truly unique and eye-catching pieces of artwork, full of colour and character. Their dedication and creativity made for a very special workshop.
Celebrating Yorkshire Craft
Yorkshire has a long tradition of craft and textiles, and it is always inspiring to continue that heritage through modern workshops. Bringing people together to learn, create, and connect is at the heart of what Feather Felts is about. Days like this remind me of the importance of taking time out to be creative, and how much joy can come from a simple handful of wool.
